Exceptional “Dude”: New Client “DrewDude”

DrewDude (A.L. Harris PR’s newest client!) is the latest addition to the ranks of talented hip hop artists from the Washington, DC area.

Beginning his lyrical journey, some years ago, after a near fatal motorcycle accident left him hospitalized, his melancholy decent spurned a motivation to write; starting with poetry, his prose lead to his first song “F**k the World”, an expression of his emotions on the consequences of his accident and the many tragic events that followed.  DrewDude continued to pen verse, recording his songs with basic music software programs borrowed from friends and hooked up to a laptop with a small microphone purchased from Staples.  Soon, through music as therapy, DrewDude found himself focusing more on the aspects of a career in hip hop and less on the events that lead him there.

“If it were not for the accident, I may not have found the love I have for hip hop, and being in the studio recording…everything happens for a reason…yes, what happened in my life during that time was tragic, but I have since come to terms with it all, and have added a new dimension to my life” says DrewDude.

No stranger to the lime light, DrewDude has opened concerts for artists such as Lil’ Boosie, and BME Recording artist, Lil Scrappy; his song “Okey Dokey”, an upbeat and whimsical nod to ragtime music, debuted on Washington, DC’s popular hip hop and r&b station WPGC’s “Home Jams” segment, and ran as Home Jams Champion for 4 consecutive weeks.

DrewDude is currently in the studio producing new music for his EP (tentative release this summer), and is in the planning stages of a 6 city regional tour slated for Fall 2010.

Connect with DrewDude on MySpace, Twitter and Facebook.  Find DrewDude on i-Tunes to download his hit single “Okey Dokey”.

Things are looking UP…

The Mirror has 2 Faces…Life and PR Update…

A few Saturdays ago, I woke up and turned to channel 26 just in time to hear the EastEnders theme song.  Finally, a Saturday morning unobstructed by work or things to do, I could just lay in bed and reacquaint myself with the fine art of watching TV with my eyes closed.  I hate that the U.S. gets EastEnders 5 seasons behind…I can’t wait for Vikki to get shipped back to America- people that plot, lie and scheme I cannot abide by…even if they are fictional characters in a British soap opera.  I digress, later that morning I sat down to my computer to finish up a proposal and my eyes starting blinking uncontrollably, and their was ridiculous pressure at the base of my noggin, 30 minutes later I’m in emergency care with my Mother, with IV’s hooked up to me and yet another CT scan on the menu {no, this isn’t the first time}.  I am the mistress of freaking out, and instead of laying down quietly, I was almost sedated because I couldn’t keep it together for more than 5 minutes. My head hurt so bad and the nausea was intolerable, not to mention light of any kind.  The scan turned up nothing (Praise God), but I was sent home with an order to see a neurologist, and a list of things to look out for should another episode occur.  The general concensus of family and nurses was “Audrey you need to de-stress”…I said “ok, whatever” and that is what I have decided to do (only for a few days though).  I am currently packing, writing and debating (with myself) on whether I should or should not bring my computer along with me on my mini-vacation.  Everything in my head {or what’s left of it} says “YES!! DUUUHHH!! You absolutely cannot go anywhere with out your white Internet box!- Acute asphyxiation is imminent without it!”  BUT, the other part of my head says “No, everyone will be able to go on with their lives for 4 days without you and will not miss a step, as will you, without them”.  To be honest, the debate continues. Once that is tackled, then I’ll debate on how many of my cameras I’m going to bring with me…YIKES!

——-

I had a dinner meeting with a “new client” last evening (well, the client had dinner- I was just an innocent on looker to 4 hastily eaten turkey sliders) but before I went into the meeting, I prayed about it, asking the Lord for guidance, and courage…then saying to myself “if they want to work with me and my team fine, if not…that’s fine too”.  Maybe this wasn’t such a good attitude to take, but then again- hmmm??  I thought the whole part of starting a new business was to go into each venture head first with a healthy bravado; knowing your worth (whether it be individual or as a group) and not letting anyone tell you any different.  Not necessarily cocky, especially if you don’t have a laundry list of references, but not a push over either. I guess I still have much to learn.   I also prayed for the strength to not be myself… that was one prayer that I will say went unanswered. I rambled, fidgeted,  was charmingly sarcastic and told “said client” that I was not about to beg for their business and they could go elsewhere if that was what they were waiting for me to do.  EPIC FAIL? No, not really, but I don’t think too much self will work with every potential client I come across.  I will have to make sure I stop, think, reflect and gauge myself  before speaking, especially since I was told to my face “If you could tone down the sarcasm, we might get more done”. {dang} My feelings weren’t hurt, but it did give me something to think about, and work on for the next time.
